A mother dog’s loss is a litter of kitten’s gain.

A female dog in Jiangmen, China recently gave birth, but lost her pups when another dog took them away.

The mother dog’s void was soon to be filled.

The dog’s owner, a man named Cai, also had a cat that had given birth to four kittens.
The mother cat unfortunately met an untimely death.

“Several days ago, the kittens’ mother died after eating a poisoned rat, leaving behind a litter of kittens without a source of milk,” Cai said.

“The kittens’ cries may have stirred the dog’s maternal nature, since it too had recently given birth.  It volunteered to take over and feed the kittens of its old friend.”

The loss of her puppies undoubtedly contributed to her willingness.

Cai said: “That’s perhaps another reason why the dog adopted the kittens.  She lost all of her own children.”

Cai has raised cats and dogs together for over 10 years.  Throughout that time, the species got along well, but never like this.

Now the kittens have the care and nourishment they need, while the mother dog has an adopted family to care for.
