Chev, a multi-colored Military Macaw, must be a remarkable bird. He is on sale for a mere $281,000.
By the way, a three-bedroom home in Airdrie, Scotland comes with the bird.
Jim Gallagher is the current owner and came up with the marketing idea from his late son, Mark.
Mr. Gallagher told the BBC Scotland News, “We were in Seville for the UEFA Cup final a few years ago and when we tried to buy tickets on the internet people were selling a scarf with a ticket for the game thrown-in for free. Mark thought the gimmick could work with Chev. We could sell him and give the house away as part of the deal.”
Mr. Gallagher and his daughter intend to move abroad with the proceeds from the sale. Mark Gallagher had passed away from an asthma attack and his father needs to leave the home and the memories.
“Chev is a real daddy’s boy and I want to make sure he is well looked after. If someone puts in a good offer on the house, but they don’t want the bird, then I’ll not say no,” said Mr Gallagher.
“I do have one or two people on standby to look after him once the house is sold.”
So what would one receive when purchasing this highly-priced bird?
For one, Chev comes with some level of fame. Four years ago, he made the news when he became a jailbird after escaping from home and being caught at a nearby hospital. The police held him in the jail. (It is unlikely that he had the opportunity to contact an attorney or that any rights were read to him.)
His talents include perching on stools, sitting on a ladder and, notably, answering the phone. It is not believed he was able to master taking messages.
Mr. Gallagher added, “Saying goodbye to Chev will be almost as hard as saying goodbye to the house.”
