Reports of zoos seeing bonds between odd couples seem to be increasing.
The Nanhai Zoo in Zhumadian City, China is the latest to witness such a pairing.
One of the zookeepers is of the habit of bringing her 6-month-old puppy to work with her.
Over time she noticed that the dog would approach a monkey’s cage on a more and more frequent basis. About a month ago, she realized that a bond had formed between the two and that they had become buddies.
“When the dog walked toward the cage, the monkey inside started to shriek,” said the zookeeper.
Now that the dog has access into the monkey’s cage, the monkey is treating it like one of its own. It grooms the dog’s fur and feeds the canine bananas.
In turn, the dog allows the monkey to ride on its back as if it was the monkey’s horse.
The zoo of course doesn’t mind. Watching the duo perform and play has become quite an attraction for zoo visitors.
